Google has revealed that its most searched term in the UK this year was ‘Euros’, following the England team’s race to the final in July.

Football topped the search engine’s 2021 list, with the ‘Premier League’ and Danish player Christian Eriksen, who collapsed on the pitch during the tournament, coming next.

The first pandemic-related research, “Covid Vaccine,” came in fourth while Jackie Weaver made a surprise entry on the list of most wanted politicians. The best of Handforth Parish Council came eighth on the list after attending a hostile Zoom meeting that went viral.

Last year, the list was dominated by research on the pandemic, with terms related to the coronavirus accounting for three of the five.

This year, football was the nation’s most eager to learn about England’s heroic run to the final, only losing narrowly on penalties to winner Italy.

The pandemic still featured high on several lists – particularly travel-related search terms with “Travel update UK” and “PCR test for travel” the top two.

The two most searched questions were “Facebook Down” in the wake of the huge October blackout that saw several of the tech giant’s platforms go down around the world for about seven hours.

In third place was “When will the lockdown end?” And the fifth was “When will I get my vaccine?” “, While the fourth on the list was” What is COP26? After the recent Glasgow event.

Last year, the two main questions asked “How to make a face mask?” and ‘How do I make a hand sanitizer?’.

Topping the “People” list was Christian Eriksen, followed by Matt Hancock, and third US Open winner Emma Raducanu.

Among the most sought-after TV shows, South Korean series Squid Game topped the list, followed by Netflix period drama Bridgerton and the BBC’s The Serpent.

“In a year of unpredictability, we turned to sports, entertainment, gardening, revenue and travel in the UK to get us through some of the most frustrating and difficult times.

“We have seen searches for prominent women dominate the top of our lists, along with huge increases in queries for opportunity and sustainability over the course of 2021.

“Year in Search always provides fascinating insight into what the nation is thinking, learning and discovering – about itself and about others. “
