IHeart’s Travis Dale discusses his journey to being a talk show host
Sports fans in the Norfolk / Virginia Bech market haven’t had enough local programming in the past. That is expected to change on Monday, when ESPN Radio 94.1 launches The Tim Donnelly Show. This will be the second live, local broadcast of the station’s weekday lineup.
“It means the world to me to have the opportunity to host a daily show on the 757,” Tim Donnelly told BSM. “The history of this region of producing some of the most influential athletes of all time is not lost on me. I’ll do my best to create content that can do justice to all the news that comes from our backyard, in addition to the greatest stories in all sports. I’m grateful to Keith Barton, Eddie Haskell, Nick Cattles and everyone at Max Media for giving me the chance to live up to these high standards.
Donnelly is currently the producer of the Nick Cattles Show in the afternoon. It’s a job he will continue to do while hosting his own two-hour show every weekday at noon.
The duo made the announcement Tuesday afternoon after a long campaign teasing listeners that something big would happen on June 1 at 5:05 p.m. After reading several guesses that included everything from cattle leaving the station to formats changing station, the host revealed that listeners in the area will have a new local show to listen to on the station.
“Shortly after arriving on the 757 in 2012, I felt that Hampton Roads deserved a greater local presence on the dial,” Cattles added. “I am delighted that this day has finally arrived. I have no doubts that Tim will provide compelling, informative and interesting content. It truly is a new day for ESPN Radio 94.1. Thanks to Max Media, Eddie Haskell and Keith Barton for believing in our growth.
This won’t be Donnelly’s first hosting experience. The former University of Delaware quarterback has previously hosted shows in Delaware, Nebraska, upstate New York and most recently in Blacksburg, Virginia where he worked until until he joined Cattles in February 2020.
