Jets legend Joe Namath explains why Brady is the best QB ever: “Tom is the best”
His choice ? Tom Brady.
During an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show” The Hall of Fame explained why the New England Patriots quarterback is the best in the NFL in his mind – even compared to the quarterbacks he idolized as a young player.
“Tom is the best,” Namath said. “I’ve been asked this question for many years – and Johnny (Unitas) was my hero, Otto Graham was awesome, Slingin ‘Sammy Baugh, I’m coming back, these guys are awesome. But in the meantime Tom has been challenged more. in recent history, certainly with huge games that anyone I can remember – and it has stepped up each time.
So what makes Brady so great? Namath didn’t mention the stats – or even the Super Bowl rings. Instead, he focused on how Brady has faced monumental challenges time and time again throughout his career. For Namath, no quarterback overcame the challenges he faced the way Brady did.
“I have to say he is the best for the challenge that has ever existed, yes,” Namath said. “I haven’t seen anyone have so many big games and take on the challenge as well as him.”
Namath, like many quarterbacks, has made many mistakes in his career that have cost his team games. But in his mind, that was never the case for the Patriots quarterback.
“I haven’t seen Tom Brady lose a game for his team,” Namath said.
“Broadway” Joe Namath was one of the NFL’s biggest stars during his 12-year career with the Jets from 1965 to 1976. The five-time Pro Bowler was among the first to establish the image of a quarterback -rear “celebrity”. He is best known for his “Guarantee” of a victory over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III – before finally leading the underdog Jets to a victory.
Brady will be 42 before the start of the 2019 season, making him the oldest positional player in the league.
