New platform launched for food companies in Shropshire
Shropshire Food and Drink is a new website, providing a platform to help local businesses reach more people.
Food and beverage companies in Shropshire can register for listing on the website’s local directory, while benefiting from shared resources within the network.
Shropshire Festivals already works with hundreds of local businesses through its annual events, the Shrewsbury Food Festival and Shropshire Oktoberfest, as well as its online store, the Shropshire Hamper Company. It already has over 120 companies listed on the new website.
The award-winning team wants to harness the power of their network and knowledge to create a collective voice for the region’s food and beverage industry. Beth Heath, director of entertainment at Shropshire Festivals, said she had wanted to create a central hub for some time and during the pandemic she had the space to put the idea into action.
She said: “We have created a platform on which food companies in Shropshire can market themselves to the world. Residents and visitors to Shropshire will be able to find these businesses online and have the resources to support them by shopping online on our website. This will give small producers who do not have their own website their own web page.
“Our goal is to build a stronger food and beverage industry in Shropshire. There are hundreds of food and beverage companies in the region, but they lack a collective voice that can raise the profile of our local offering and cement Shropshire as a destination for food and drink.
“We want the food and beverage companies in Shropshire, the length and breadth of the supply chain, to sign up. Small businesses have always struggled to keep pace with big commercial brands, even more so with the strain and challenges caused by the pandemic. We want to bring these businesses together in one place, to showcase all the amazing businesses we have to offer, strengthening the presence of every farmer, producer, brewer, baker, maker, restaurateur, street vendor, etc. We can help them reach a wider audience to safeguard their future.
“Local food and drink companies have always been at the heart of everything we do at festivals in Shropshire – from our farm roads to the food festival. We understand the importance of supporting products that are made, raised and grown locally.
“We would love to hear from any businesses that would like to register, which is free for 2021. They can benefit from new audience building, industry understanding and peer-to-peer networking.”
