Plans for an underground house in Wilmslow’s greenbelt have been turned down

Plans to build an underground house on land off Greaves Road in Wilmslow have been turned down.
Cheshire East Council rejected the proposal on the grounds that it was an inappropriate development in the green belt, in a location currently free of development and no very special circumstances have been demonstrated which would outweigh the harm caused in the green belt.
Wilmslow City Council’s Planning Committee recommends that this application be denied for the following reasons: inappropriate development in the Greenbelt without any special or exceptional circumstances and no specific need for development of this magnitude; be out of step with adjacent properties; the construction of a parking lot for 5 vehicles hindering the opening of the Greenbelt; concerns about road safety issues; concerns about the potential impact on neighboring properties caused by ground disturbance during construction and this application, which requires extensive excavation, represents improper management which has considerable landscape impacts with the drawdown of the water table causing the peat shrinkage, soil instability, peat oxidation and a consequent release of fossil carbon into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide.
The direct neighbor was notified of the application, during the first round of publicity 13 letters of objection were received and with the additional publicity another 10 letters of objection were received.
The plans can be viewed at Cheshire East Council Planning Portal looking for the reference 20/0622M.
