He spent a day in the hospital last Thursday. We took him home and kept all facilities including oxygen on hand when needed. “
Speaking of the actor’s final hours, his son said, “He was fine last night. The end was peaceful. We plan to perform the last rites to Pawan Hans at Vile Parle today at 4pm.
Recalling veteran actor, CINTAA deputy secretary, Amit Behl told the publication: “It’s a great loss. Chandrashekhar sir, along with Asha Parekh, Mithunda, Amrish Puri, Amjad Khan and Ram Mohan, performed a pivotal role in securing the government land where our new building is being constructed. We were so anxious to have his presence at the grand opening, but fate had other plans. “
Chandrashekhar has appeared in around 250 films. He made his heroic debut with Surang (1953). He also tried out several supporting characters in films like Gateway of India, Fashion (1957), Barsaat Ki Raat (1960) and others. He donned the producer, director and actor hat for his hit musical film Cha Cha Cha (1964), which starred Helen in a lead role.
He was also the maternal grandfather of actor Shakti Arora of Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka.
May the soul of Chandrashekhar rest in peace.
